There are two major forms of income you can earn online. One is direct sales income. Direct sales income gives you an immediate profit for a sale. A good example of this is affiliate income. Someone clicks on your link and you get a sales commission. Ebay is another example. Someone buys one of your products and you make a sale.

Residual income is another type of online income that keeps paying you from work you did once. People who write a book or a song can get residual income from their one-time effort. Wealth builders like Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad) teach that residual income is a important way to build long term income. Just like a CD or IRA, residual income can be considered like an investment.

Network marketing is also a form of residual income. You don't just make a sale once, you profit from the sale over and over as the distributor you signed up now buys products and signs up more distributors in your company. Network marketing is a powerful and legitimate form of business, especially if you understand that network marketing is a form of residual income.

For most people it takes time to build a substantial monthly income stream from your network marketing company alone. Many people get into network marketing hoping to make a quick buck, but that usually only works for a few super-sales people. For the rest of us, it takes time to build a good business. You should give your network marketing residual income at least several years before you are making a profit that allows you to quit your job.
